Why did IU decide to offer this service between IUPUI and IU Bloomington?

The intercampus shuttle offers many benefits to the university and surrounding communities including:

During the School year(Fall & Spring semesters), we make four trips daily from each campus Monday through Friday. Benefits will include a new self-service reservation system, reclining seats, WiFi, and DoubleMap – a real time, bus tracking interactive map.

·        Reduces your carbon footprint and conserves energy

According to the American Public Transit Association, a single person, commuting alone by car, who switches a 20-mile round-trip commute to transit, can reduce his/her annual CO2 emissions by 4,800 pounds per year.

·        Mitigates congestion and traffic concerns during the peak hours of commute between IUPUI and IU Bloomington

·        Supports engagement and community

The intercampus shuttle will support faculty, staff and student engagement, success and community through increased accessibility to meetings, classes, events and opportunities at both campuses.

Age of Passengers: 

You must be 18 years of age or over to make travel reservations on Goexpresstravel.com or any subsidiary/partner website selling services operated by GO Express Travel. All children under 17 years of age must be accompanied by an adult (17 years of age or over) when traveling on a GO Express Travel Operating Carrier’s motorcoach. By purchasing a ticket, you confirm you are at least the age of 18 and that any passenger under age 17 will be accompanied by a responsible person 17 years of age or over. GO Express Travel reserves the right, but is not obligated, to verify the age of any passenger and deny access to anyone under 17 years of age who is not accompanied by a responsible person 17 years of age or over. 

What is the cost for riding the shuttle?

·        $12 – One-way tickets with a reserved seat can be purchased online at campuscommute.com for $12.  You can purchase discounted ride credits to save 20%. Purchasing discounted ride credits can be done while logged into the reservation system. Pay just $80.00 and receive $100.00 worth of ride credits.

Where can I purchase a ticket?

This website is the only point of purchase for Campus Commute reservations.

 Where do I catch the bus?

We have placed signs at the State House location, the Stadium Purple lot in Bloomington and at the Student Center.  If being picked up at the Stadium Purple lot, please be at our sign at least 5 minutes prior to pick up time.  From the State House, please be at the Campus Commute street sign (West Side of Capitol Ave, near corner of Capitol and Court St.).  From the IMU, please be in the circle drive.

What amenities does the bus offer?

 Is the shuttle available for commuters and the general public in Bloomington? If so, where?

Free and reserved shuttle parking for commuters is available in the northwest corner of the Memorial Stadium purple lot at Gate 10 off of the State Road 45/46 Bypass. Parking is also available at the Indiana Memorial Union, 900 E. 7th St., at the prevailing visitor rate.

 Where are the shuttle pick-up locations in Indianapolis?

Pick-up locations in Indianapolis are at the IUPUI Campus Center, 420 University Blvd., and the Indiana Statehouse, located near the intersection of Capitol Ave. and Court Street on the east side of the building(there is a large Campus Commute street sign at this location).

 Is shuttle parking available for commuters and the general public in Indianapolis? If so, where?

The general public and commuters are welcome to park on the IUPUI campus in the Vermont Street Garage, 1004 W. Vermont St., at the prevailing visitor rate. Downtown Indianapolis also offers several parking options, which vary in price.

 How early can I board the shuttle?

Passengers should plan to arrive at the shuttle stop no less than 5 minutes before the scheduled departure time.

 Approximately how many passengers will the intercampus shuttle accommodate?

The shuttle will accommodate between 24 passengers.  GO Express reserves the right to use a larger shuttle to accommodate demand on heavy travel days.

Will I need to have my ID to ride the shuttle?

Once you have made a reservation, our new reservation system will allow you to board the bus by simply telling the driver your last name so they can check you in. 

Can IU employees use pre-tax dollars to purchase tickets?

IU employees can use pre-tax dollars for commuting purposes ONLY. Please visit University Human Resources for more information about enrollment in the Pre-Tax Commuter Benefit. This benefit does not reduce the cost of the ticket, but the pre-tax plan does save money by lowering the amount of federal, state and local income taxes you pay. This benefit is NOT available to students.

 Can I make a reservation on the shuttle?

Yes, if there is seating available it is possible to make a reservation using your mobile device while on the bus.

 Who is permitted to ride the intercampus shuttle?

The intercampus shuttle is available for IU Bloomington/IUPUI faculty, staff, students and members of the general public.

 Is the shuttle available to members of the general public?


 Can children ride the shuttle?

Children are allowed to ride the shuttle and, like adults, must purchase a ticket.

 How are children secured on the shuttle?

The shuttle offers lap restraints. If you would feel more comfortable with your child in an infant car seat or booster seat, you will need to supply the necessary equipment. If additional information is needed/wanted about child travel, please call GO Express Travel at 800.589.6004.

 Does the intercampus shuttle run on weekends?

No. The shuttle operates Monday through Friday. However, additional service may be added in the future if demand is there.  GO Express is strongly considering adding Sunday afternoon services in the fall of next year.  Please contact us if you want to see the shuttle operate on Sundays using the "contact us" page.

Will the shuttle operate in inclement weather?

The shuttle will continue to operate as long as the roads are passable. If a state of emergency has been declared in Marion, Morgan or Monroe Counties, the shuttle will cease operation. Notification will be placed on the DoubleMap App and campuscommute.com.

 Does the shuttle operate for IU football and/or basketball games?

There will not be a special shuttle for IU football or basketball games. However, if the game is scheduled during the times the shuttle is operational, fans can ride the shuttle.

 Are animals allowed on the shuttle?

Only registered service animals (animals that provide assistance to passengers with disabilities) are permitted on the intercampus shuttle.

 Are accommodations made for customers with a disability?

Yes. It is requested that riders with disabilities contact GO Express Travel 24-48 hours in advance at 800.589.6004.

 Are food and drink allowed on the bus?

Yes. Food and drink are allowed on the bus. However neither food nor beverages are sold on the bus. 

 Is the shuttle schedule subject to change?

All schedule times are approximate. Travel times may vary as a result of traffic conditions, road construction, inclement weather and/or special events. For the most up-to-date schedule, please visit campuscommute.com.

 Will the shuttle operate during the holidays?

Yes. The shuttle will maintain the existing schedule during the holidays. The shuttle will also run on a scheduled holiday if it falls during the workweek.

 Will the shuttle operate during university/campus breaks?

Shuttle operation during Campus Breaks is TBD.  Announcements about any non-service holidays will be made in advance.  The shuttle will operate during the summer!

 Will I be expected to tip the shuttle driver?

No. However, the bus driver will accept a tip if you are so inclined.

 Can the shuttle be reserved for large groups?

Yes, as long as each person has a reservation.  

 Can the shuttle accommodate bicycles and luggage?

Bicycles are not permitted on the bus.  Extra bags may require the purchase of another seat.

 Do IUPUI and IU Bloomington offer a campus shuttle system or bus service that I can use to reach my final destination once I have arrived at the intercampus shuttle stops?

Yes, both campuses offer a fixed-route bus service for faculty, staff, students and the general public. With the convenient DoubleMap app, you can track the shuttle as it travels on each campus. Each campus also offers real-time tracking on their respective website:

 Is travel for non-IU business reimbursable?


 How do IU travelers submit a reimbursement for IU business?

Upon return from your trip, complete an in-state reimbursement document in Travel@IU claiming the shuttle expense reimbursement under the “Other” section of the document. You must submit the original receipt.

 Can departments purchase intercampus shuttle reservations for employee and/or department use?


 IUPUI departments that wish to purchase intercampus shuttle tickets for employee/departmental use and have the cost billed to an IU account, must complete the following forms and submit to IUPUI Accounting: Request for Card Services and IUPUI Request for Payment/Reimbursement for Hospitality. Once the request has been approved, the order will be forwarded to the IUPUI JagTag Office for fulfillment and billing. Departments will be notified when the tickets are available for pick-up.

 Can faculty, staff and students ride the intercampus shuttle for pleasure or is it strictly for business purposes?

The intercampus shuttle can be ridden for both business and pleasure. But travel for non-IU business is not reimbursable.
